What are water accounts?
Water accounts show the transfer of water between natural water resources (e.g. groundwater, rivers and atmosphere), individual economic sectors and private households. They make it easy to see what quantity of water is needed by which economic sector. They can provide a basis for decisions on the allocation of water quantities to economic sectors, especially in arid and semi-arid areas where water is limited.
In Armenia, the Statistics Committee has in-depth knowledge about water accounts. The data is published on the ARMSTAT website. However, to date, the findings on water management from the water account have limited usage. The EU4Environment – Water and Data programme supports the further development of water accounts to use the knowledge for water resources management.
